In the heart of downtown Beaufort’s “The Glebe” district—an intimate neighborhood of quiet streets and charming homes—sits a standout project that embodies what we call The Allison Ramsey Way. It’s not just about designing beautiful homes; it’s about listening to the site, understanding the client’s vision, and adapting timeless designs to meet specific needs. One of the best recent examples of this is the Gregson (233145).

Originally designed by co-founder Bill Allison in 2020, the Gregson is proof that square footage doesn’t limit impact. The home, selected by a couple looking to build on one of the last remaining lots in The Glebe, had to be compact, functional, and visually distinct. Architect Jeremiah Smith met with the homeowners early in the process and helped bring their vision to life through a series of thoughtful modifications.

“This project came together beautifully, thanks to a clear vision from the homeowners,” says Jeremiah. “They knew exactly what they wanted, which really streamlined the process.”

The Gregson (233145)’s footprint is modest—just 1,173 square feet—but every inch is considered. The open first floor spills out to a generous 12’ x 17’ screened rear porch, expanding the living area and offering an inviting outdoor room with views of a stunning 57-inch live oak. This decision makes the backyard feel more established, something that is rare in new construction.

Inside, the home balances simplicity with comfort. Two spacious bedrooms upstairs each have a full bath, making the house perfect for full-time living or a low-maintenance getaway. Downstairs, changes to the original plan made the layout even more personalized. The homeowners opted to flip the staircase, laundry, and powder room to free up space for a fireplace along the side of the home that faces an open lot—capitalizing on privacy and natural light.

“The original plan was simple,” Jeremiah explains. “But those small adjustments—like adding a fireplace and expanding the porch—gave the house even more character and usability.”

Another hallmark of the Allison Ramsey Way is attention to outdoor living and secondary structures. In the backyard, Jeremiah designed an outbuilding that mirrors the house’s aesthetic, complete with board and batten siding, shake gables, and dark window trim. Functionality was key: this space includes bike storage, a fish-cleaning station, and a large outdoor shower—ideal for Lowcountry living.

From copper roofing accents to the timeless material palette, every detail of the Gregson (233145) reinforces the value of well-proportioned, thoughtful design. This home doesn’t shout for attention—it invites you in.

“At just 1,173 square feet, this home is small but so very efficient,” says Jeremiah. “It’s vertical, well-proportioned design will stand the test of time—and appeal to families for years to come.”

That’s the Allison Ramsey Way: architecture rooted in timeless principles, customized to elevate everyday life. The Gregson (233145) isn’t just a house—it’s a story of collaboration, creativity, and design that feels just right.
